Las
Juntas
The
origin of its name, Las Juntas or "La
Junta", is due to the junction of the
Palena and Rosselot Rivers. It was
founded the 13th of august of 1963 when people
from different parts of the country came to this
place of enchantment in search of a more prosperous
future.
Las
Junta's andean climate gives rise to excellent
grazing and farm lands surrounded by a beautiful
natural landscape. It has a population of approximately
1000 inhabitants, and it counts with an emergency
medical center, police station, public telephone
and internet services, restaurants, supermarkets,
inns and a gasoline station. On Km. 270 of
the Austral Road, from Coyhaique
towards Chaitén, it is located at
the crossroad to Raul Marín Balmaceda
to the west and Lago Verde to the east.
Las
Junta's privileged geographic location as
north entrance to the Chilean Patagonia,
offers visitors a natural and touristic view of
the zone. It is a perfect intermediate point between
Chaitén and Coyhaique, making
"Hotel Espacio y Tiempo" an operations
center for many different activities: fly fishing
or trolling excursions in rivers, lakes and lagoons;
kajaking, catanoeing in Lake Rosselot and the
Palena River; horseback riding in the valleys
and river descents in different nearby rivers;
excursions into the unspoiled nature nearby.
